Timeline / History
1946
Poon Chi Tak arrives in Hong Kong from Chiuchow, China, and founds Tak Ying Company, a small garment factory with four sewing machines. His son, James Poon was born in 1949.
1970
James Poon leaves Hong Kong to pursue an education at Oregon State University in the United States.
1983
After graduating from Oregon State University and building a successful career at Li & Fung and Cluett Peabody Inc., James Poon uses the experience he has gained and his knowledge of supply chain management and trading to found Monterey Industries Limited, a garment and sundry trading company in Hong Kong.
1989
Monty Industries Limited established 4 garment manufacturing facilities in Honduras.
1995
Monty Industries Limited expands its manufacturing operations to Yucatan, Mexico after the signing of the NAFTA bill eliminates restrictions on the flow of goods, services, and investment between Mexico, Canada, and the United States. He builds one of the best and largest garment manufacturing factories in the Western Hemisphere.
2002
At the request of the President of Honduras, James Poon invests in the Honduran agriculture sector and begins producing high-quality crops for export, eventually founding Monty Farms.
2003
After two decades of continued growth and success in Honduras and Mexico, the Monty Group returns to China to further expand its garment manufacturing business, as well as diversify its real estate and private equity activities. The Group invests in new sectors including energy, entertainment, food chain, healthcare, and banking amongst others.
2003
The Group establishes Monty Properties, the real estate arm, and Monty Capital, the public and private equity investment arm.
2013
Monty Farms expands its commercial farming operations and begins producing high-quality produce in Huizhou, China.
2015
The Monty Group establishes its international headquarter office in Hong Kong, China.
